Saving Energy during Injection Moulding: the new tooling concept by A QIM-Quality International Moulds Ltd. is the key

Up to 80% of energy can be saved due to the new tooling concept for injection moulding of small and large components. Additionally, it can help shorten cycle times and improve product quality. The underlying idea by A QIM is simple and yet fascinating: not the whole tool is heated, as it is usually the case, but only the small, crucial area of the mould inserts.

Sample calculation
When heating a tool to the target temperature of 75 degrees Celsius at the mould contour surface, a conventional tool needs 2.1 kilowatts, whereas the innovative new tooling concept only needs 0.1 kilowatts. The saved energy can easily become a multiple of this figure when processing larger components or using higher temperature. In addition to that, the time to reach a processable temperature level is reduced considerably. Further advantages fort he product quality result from the more regular heat distribution. Thereby, an innovative, cycle-related temperature regulation is universally possible also for smaller components with lesser wall-thickness.

The idea is a result of a process of continuous development. Due to the close cooperation of the A QIM engineering office with several other companies, the idea could be realized and made marketable within a very short time. The new tooling concept is available at A QIM as a new, variable NormalienStandard for mould making. It thereby covers 95% of the common applications in the fields of injection moulding, die casting, and the processing of elastomers and thermosets.
